MRSA - Arrest that Hospital!
Sky News : Hospitals Could Face Superbug Charges
Hospitals could face criminal charges if patients catch superbugs, Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt has warned.
She says it is not right that hygiene laws are tougher in food factories than in hospitals.
"We can't have a situation where we've got tougher hygiene laws and standards in food factories than we have for people who are very, very seriously ill in hospital, she said.
"We need a much stronger legal framework."
However, she said hospital visitors must take responsibility for not spreading bugs, such as MRSA.
And from the Beeb:
On the MRSA issue, Ms Hewitt said the government was "looking at" holding hospital bosses criminally responsible for bugs such as MRSA.
I have just woken up in another New Labour nightmare.
How the hell will the threat of criminal charges help tack MRSA?
Motivation? What a great way to motivate your staff... "Do your job properly or we will arrest you!" Stunning.
This is New Labour bollocks of the highest order.
If you arrest the bosses of a hospital with an MRSA problem you still have a hospital with an MRSA problem.
